History and Physical Examination of Lung Cancer

A. History of Lung Cancer

Clinical picture of lung cancer are not much different from other lung diseases, consisting of subjective complaints and objective symptoms. History will be obtained from the primary complaint and the course of disease, as well as other factors that often helps the establishment of the diagnosis.

The main complaint Of Lung Cancer may be: 
  • Cough with / without sputum (phlegm white, can also purulent)
  • Coughing up blood 
  • Shortness of breath
  • Hoarseness 
  • Chest Pain 
  • Difficulty / pain swallowing
  • Lump in the base of the neck

B. Physical examination of LUNG CANCER.

 Physical examination of lung cancer must be done thoroughly and carefully. The results are very depends on the abnormality on examination performed. Lung tumors of small size and is located in the peripheral can provide a normal examination. Tumors with large size, especially if accompanied by atelectasis due to bronchial compression, pleural effusion or vena cava pressure will provide more informative results. This examination can also provide data for determining the stage of disease, such as enlarged lymph nodes or tumor outside the lung. Metastasis to other organs can also be detected with the palpability of the liver, funduscopic examination to detect intracranial pressure elevation and the occurrence of fractures due to bone metastases.
